Savannah enjoys the company of other horses.
It has been a few weeks since you have heard about our newest horse, Savannah. I hate to admit it but, it has been so hot and humid this summer that I haven’t been outside much. Savannah is 5 months old and has been moved to a larger pasture that has electric fencing to prevent her from crawling out. I have been socializing her with the other horses one at a time. I do this so the horses get to know each other’s personality without the threat of being ganged up on. I carefully monitor the horses when they first visit, especially the bigger horses so, she doesn’t get hurt. She is so tiny standing next to Sundae and Dakota. The next step will be to have more than one horse in and by fall she will stay in an area with the entire herd. I am hopeful that I will return to the pasture within the next two weeks to begin my daily play and rehearsing. Sundae and I are scheduled to do a dancing horse challenge in December and we have a lot of work to do.

Unbridled Beauty, Celebrating the Spirit of Horses
The minute I walked into the Cracker Barrel , this book caught my eye. I love paintings by artist, Chris Cummings and I love to read quotes of inspiration. What a great combination! Here are a few of my favorite quotes. No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle. “Winston Churchill”, Closeness, friendship, affection-keeping your own horse means all these things. “Bertrand Leclair” and A lovely horse is always an experience. It is an emotional experience of the kind that is spoiled by words. “Beryl Markham”.

My daughter, Tracy and Makhi enjoy the carousel ride.

- Makhi enjoys a pony ride.
Tuesday was a great day to visit Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster, PA.. This is a great park for younger children who can’t ride all those big coasters and crazy rides and the lines aren’t to long. Each year the park tries to add one new attraction. It’s been a few years since I have visited the park and a water park has been added. Unfortunately, I found that children were not well supervised and to be honest, some were just plain rude. The water slides are great but, the lines were extremely long so we stayed on the other side of the park. Our favorite ride is the water flume. Amomg rides we were able to get on were the carousel, giant slide, a spinning turtle ride, roller coaster and antique car ride, just to name a few. In spite of the fact that I had a migrain and Leon (Tracy’s boyfriend) had a toothach, we were able to still have a good time and enjoy dinner at Fudruckers. Jenna and Bubba share a special moment.
The sight of him did something to me I’ve never quite been able to explain. He was more than tremendous strength and speed and beauty of motion. He set me dreaming. ” Walt Morey”. Read this and other beautiful quotes in the book “Unbridled Beauty, Celebrating the Spirit of Horses” with paintings by equestrian artist, Chris Cummings.
Bubba was the horse my daughter, Jenna learned to vault on. He was a gentle giant measuring 18 hands high and weighing over 2,000 pounds. He was patient, forgiving of her mistakes and proudly carried her and her team mates during competitions and at exhibitions. This is my favorite picture of Jenna and Bubba, it shows the special bond they had for each other.Follow Jenna on her Never Ending Road Trip.

Savannah loves to visit with the children.

- Savannah & Pheonix, love at first sight!
Yesterday the girls of Country Time 4-H threw a party for Delainey Parsons and granted her wish to ride a horse. Delainey’s adorable little sister, Pheonix came to join the party. She wanted so badly to ride a horse so we took her into meet Savannah. It was love at first sight as I saw Pheonix plant a gentle kiss on Savannah’s muzzle. Two year old Pheonix, having survived cleft palate surgery has over come many obstacles in her young life. She is cute as a button and full of energy. She will be returning in the near future to do a photo shoot with Savannah and perhaps she too, will get to ride a horse.

Members of Country Time 4-H.

Delainey gives Dakota a big hug!
It was a wonderful day for the girls of Country Time 4-H and their special guest, Delainey Parsons. Delainey is one of six children, four of which are miracle children. Her older brother is a cancer survivor and younger sister Phoenox, survived cleft palate surgery. Her father is currently not working due to an injury and mother, Misty tends to their two year old who has a tracheostomy. The couple could not provide bithday gifts and posted a request in a Yahoo chat room requesting a ride on a horse for their little girl. We wanted to make this a special birthady indeed so as well as a ride on Dakota, she would get a party complete with cake, candles and presents. The Parsons are a wonderful family. Their hardships with their children’s have made them a close knit family and they appreciate the kindness of others in their time in need. Delainey was all smiles during her ride on Dakota. After, the family was invited to visit with Savannah where little sister, Pheonix and Savannah hit it off immediately. Pheonix will make a great poster child, she is absolutely adorable! Lunch of peanut butter & jelly or turkey and cheese, peaches, grapes, chips and juice was followed by a “horsey cake”. As hot as it was outside, we were unable to light the candles so Delainey just “faked it”. There were plenty of gifts provided by the club members, special guest, Holly Kehler and the Shepherd Place Shelter. Holly took lots of great pictures so we can put together a memory book for Delainey. Delainey and the girls hit it off as if they were best buddies. I hope the Parsons family will visit us again.

The rescue dog & I stand in front of my corvette.
It was a hot day for the Wine & Wheels Car Show but, many turned out for a good cause. The event was held at the beautiful Pizzadili Winery in Felton, Delaware. Lots of beautiful cars, wine tasting, vendors and good fun will make for a profitable event for the Debra L. Sipple Memorail, Inc (Debbie’s Fund). Each year this organization holds numerous events and raise thousands of dollars for animals in need. Some of these organizations include Candles for Cats & Canines, KCSPCA’s Trigger Fund, Purr-fect Haven Cat Rescue, Whimsical Animal Rescue and Dalmation Rescue of Delaware. I took a moment to pose with their mascot the rescue dog. Learn more about the Debra L. Sipple Memorial, Inc. and all the great work they are doing!

Makhi and I dyed shirts too. They turned out great!

- The girls show off their shirts.
I am a very crafty person but, believe it or not, I have never tye dyed. Last week the girls of Country Time 4-H and I did our first project. Tye Dye kits make this project very simple. The hardest part is wrapping the shirt. There are so many ways to wrap a shirt that I decided to have the girls do what ever was easiest for them. We folded the shirt in half (length wise) and then started at one side and bunched the shirt, something like a fan effect. Once we had a long tube we careful started at one end and started rolling it into a circle. It was almost like making a cinnamon roll. After we had a tight circle we took rubber bands and put them around the circle, it looked like a pie when it was done. The shirt is then soaked in ash water for 20 minutes. Make sure you wear rubber gloves when using ash or dye. Once removed from the water squeeze to remove excess water. Wrap in a towel and squeeze some more. Once the shirt is as dry as you can get it start applying the dye, one triangle at a time. Do not take dye to the center of the pie, it can blend with other colors and make a big brown blob! After dye is applied to all the pie triangles on both sides, place shirt in plastic bag and let sit for 24 hours. Carefully remove shirt and rince dye till shirt rinses clear. Wash and dry shirt immediately. Our shirts have a line design. Next time I’d like to try the twist method so we can get a spiral design. The girls look great in their shirts!

Tracy Lamb performs at Ludwigs.

Jenna Lamb does a vaulting demo.
It’s hard to believe but, it’s been 10 years since I attended the Ludwig’s Corner Horse Show and Country Fair. My daughters, Jenna and Tracy did a vaulting demo and it was a really nice show. The 3 day show takes place over Labor day weekend, September 5,6, and 7, 09 and attracts about 500 competitors. As well as competition there is a car show, carriage exhibition, game demonstration and entertainment. This year’s entertainment includes the Chincoteague trick ponies by trainer Kyley DiLuigi. They even paint pictures! The Thorncroft Mainstreamers will do a skills demo and the Pickering Hunt Pony Club Team will do a games demo. To learn more about the 66th annual event visit Ludwigs Horse Show. For great horse apparel, toys, embroidered towels, picture frames and jewelry visit Country Time Creations, for a schedule see the side bar Pages/Events . Did you visit? Leave a comment!

Makhi enjoys taking Savannah for a walk.
Time is passing quickly and my little Savannah, is growing up fast! Last week she shed all of her baby fur. It literally came out by the handful and within a few days she had a nice new coat. She will continue on Foal-lac until she is 6 months old and for now her training will be perfecting the things she has already learned. She has been moved to a larger pen and now is socializing with Cheyenne and Gypsy. I am hopeful that within a few weeks she can stay in the same stall as the other two mini’s. So far, Gypsy has been the only horse who has been aggressive toward Savannah. I am sure she is just marking her spot in the herd. Now that Savannah is a little older she can begin joining the herd one horse at a time.
